Als ich noch ein kleiner Junge war, gab es ein paar Dinge, die gehörten für mich zu den Besten der Welt. Leider verloren diese ihren Zauber, umso älter ich wurde. Zu diesen Dingen gehören zum Beispiel Bud Spencer und Terence Hill, die Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, Milchreis, Dinosaurier – und Ballontierchen, die irgendwelche Jahrmarktkünstler knoteten. Dank Jason Hackenwerth sind die Ballontierchen aufeinmal wieder ganz toll: Die bizarren Wesen, die Hackenwerth aus den Ballons zaubert, sind einfach der Wahnsinn.
Drawing inspiration from nature, Hackenwerth brings strange animals and bizarre landscapes to life through the twisting and turning of hundreds and thousands of balloons. Reminiscent of millipedes, of crustaceans, of deep sea fishes and waterborne plants, his giant works make the microscopic macroscopic. Rendered larger-than-life but yet unnaturally airborne they are brilliantly surreal, capturing the transcendentalism of both air and of nature itself.
